FAQs

    •  A signing Officer and the Official spokesperson for the Branch.

    • Apply knowledge of Legion procedures on an on-going basis.

    • Preside over all General Meetings and be ex-officio at all other Branch committee meetings.

    • Conduct the election or the appointment of members to the executive in accordance with the by-laws of the branch.

    • Assign elected members to their roles and chairs.

    • Provide training to new executive members and committee chairs.

    • Currently acts as the Chair person for all general meetings.

    • Takes on the responsibility of any committee when a chair has not been assigned or has left the position.

    • In cooperation with the Bookkeeper, manages the day-to-day operation of the branch.

    • Represents the Branch at all levels of the Legion hierarchy.

    • Maintains decorum in the branch.

    • Applies Legion behaviour and conduct by-law rules to the membership.

    • Convene disciplinary committees and implements their decisions.

    • Organize Branch representation at conventions and conferences.

    • Oversee the employment of qualified personnel.

    • Oversee and maintain work and remuneration standards for Branch employees.

    • Maintain a positive attitude in the Branch that will result in member satisfaction, good business results and a high level of Morale.

    • Maintain continuity between administrations that will result in a high level of Morale.

  • Nominated &/or Elected by the General Body

    Specific Chairs: Chaplain, Service Officer, Membership, Sgt.-at-Arms, Sports, Entertainment, Youth Ed., Ways & Means, Legion Week, Regalia, Public Relations and Track & Field.

    • Must be a member in good standing and have attended at least 3 General Meetings in the past 12 months.

    • Basic elected position in the Legion. Members of the Branch executive who sit in the role of providing input to the preparation of policy, procedures and direction of the Branch and bringing these issues/ idea to the General Branch Body for their decision.

    • Chair one or more Branch committees. Staff, Manage and Report on the activities of the committees to the executive council. Propose changes in policy, procedure and direction to the executive council.

    • 12 Executive Meetings, 10 General Meetings, Honours & Awards Meetings, Zone/District council, most Branch Parades, most Legion Services for Branch members who have passed on.

    • Other duties assigned by the Branch President

    • Maintain procedures for all financial transactions in the Branch.

    • A signing officer of the branch

    • Budget and forecast revenues and expenses for the fiscal year.

    • Review the financial results on a monthly basis, follow-up on anomalies, report on the results.

    • Maintain responsibility for all monies receive and distributed by the Branch.

    • Meet with departments within the branch to review revenues and expenses and implement techniques to meet budgets.

    • Review the input from the External Auditor report. Propose and implement solutions that are presented.

    • Employ an external “audit” source to review financial results, processes and procedures.

    • Sit on Long Range and Financial committees and address long term opportunities and anticipate expenses that may be required.

    • Maintain a revue process on inventory levels, purchasing practices  and depreciation of capital equipment.

    • Senior Management position.

    • Other duties assigned by the Branch President

    • Manage the committee that assists Veterans and their spouses in times of need.

    • Guide Veterans and their spouses to Government Depts., where they can receive the benefits that their circumstances entitles then to.

    • Maintain a close relationship with the Government departments that deal with Veteran and their spouse issues.

    • Maintain a close relationship with the Legion hierarchy and communicate issues that should be addressed.

    • Honorary member of the poppy committee

    • Other duties assigned by the Branch President

  • Maintain all information on the branch membership (computer database).

    • Communicate all changes in status to Dominion command.

    • Audit all Dominion command branch listings against our branch data.

    • Collect all membership dues and pay per capita to the various levels of the Legion hierarchy.

    • Report Membership status to all Legion levels.

    • Conduct an “early bird” dues campaign every year between Sept. and Dec. 1st.

    • Mail follow-up collection letters to delinquent members.

    • Conduct a weekly recruitment program aimed at growing the Branch membership.

    • Process all new member applications, schedule and assist with “swearing in” ceremonies.

    • Process all necessary paperwork to promote members into voting categories, welcome transferred members and forward paperwork on transferees.

    • Maintain the branch’s, membership board as well as the sick and deceased boards.

    • Maintain a branch file of all branch membership forms.

    • Provide a monthly membership list to the branch to be used for local activities.

    • Other duties assigned by the Branch President

    •  Maintain a Standing committee of workers whose main goal is running the Campaign.

    • Order all preparatory materials for the Campaign.

    • Post and maintain 'Canvasser” participation lists.

    • Prepare and maintain “Poppy box” location list

    • Prepare and maintain “corporate donations” list

    • Manage Delivery and pickup of the “Poppy boxes”.

    • Manage delivery of “canvasser boxes” to the members, sign in their       receipts, count the monies and deposit  to the Poppy account.

    • Prepare and mail “corporate donation” letters and follow up with thank you letters.

    • Report results to all level of the Legion.

    • Other duties assigned by the Branch President

  • Secretary:

    • Receive, distribute, report, reply and file all Branch correspondence.

    • Record, distribute, read and file all Branch meeting minutes.

    • Prepare, distribute and maintain all official Branch correspondence.

    • Maintain confidential correspondence files.

    • Other duties assigned by the Branch President

    • In addition to the same duties as an executive member, Branch Officers have the following types of duties:

      • Management of senior committees (Bar Chair, Executive Committee, Board of Management, Long Range Planning , Leadership & Planning, Nevada, Canada Day etc.)

      • Vice Presidents are automatically part of the Zone Council.

      • Assist the President in the swearing-in of new members.

      • Represent the President and the Branch in an official capacity at various functions and activities.

      • Be prepared to take over the role of the next level should circumstances (illness etc.) warrant such a change.

      • Assist the Branch executive in the execution of their roles as chairs for the various committees.

      • Assist in setting the tone for a “Strong Branch Morale” and good decorum.

      • Assist in the development of new roles and procedures

    • Should:

      • Have an understanding of Legion practices and procedures (experience).

      • Have basic knowledge of Business practices and financial reporting.

      • Be a Team Player.

    • Should be able to:

      • Run a Branch/committee meeting.

      • Write a procedure on a subject.

      • Present a written report to the Executive council & General Body.

      • Other Duties assigned by the Branch President
